June 1, 2020

Dear Families,

As we slowly begin to wind down the most unusual 2019-2020 school year, I wanted to let you know about events, deadlines, and graduation information for you and your children. I know this has been a challenging few months for many of you being thrown into the “teacher” role, and I want to acknowledge you for all of your hard work, patience and support as we navigate through this interesting time. I’m hopeful for the future and for getting our lives, school, and community back to business. Below are a few upcoming dates for you:

  • June 3 will be the last day for homework to go out, be delivered on buses
  • June 10 last collection day-work, ChromeBooks, and band instruments
  • June 17 last day for grades-last day of delivery of meals
  • June 15-19-Teachers will be grading and finalizing report cards
  • Report cards will be mailed home on June 22

Please reach out to your child’s teacher for last minute assignments and homework completion. Students grades will be based on their 3rd quarter grade and 25 % of homework that they turned in. I was pleased and inspired by the amount of work students completed during the “shut down”. Kudos to parents, grandparents, and siblings for helping students continue on with their learning.

Graduation 2020

It is official! Our senior class will be graduating on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 1:00 PM. The ceremony will consist of a “Drive-In” type of ceremony to be held in the school parking lot. Seniors will each have two cars filled with family members to witness the ceremony, and an FM system will be available. Unfortunately, we have to limit the event to immediate family only. We were charged with developing a plan for commencement which met all county and state health mandates. For the community however, we will have the entire ceremony recorded and available for viewing by the end of June. We will post the video on our district website for all to see.

Senior Cruise/Gift Bins

Community members are invited to come out and celebrate our seniors as they “cruise” down main street on Friday, June 12 at 6:00 pm. Senior Students will be in their uniquely decorated cars and “make the loop”. We hope you can come downtown and show our 18 senior students your support and congratulations on their graduation. We will have a Gift Bin for each senior at graduation. If you would like to drop off a card, gift, or words of encouragement to one of our super students, please write the name on the item and drop it off at the high school office between 8:00-3:00 Monday through Thursday. We will make sure they are placed in the appropriate bin.

Finally, I know there are a lot of rumors, stories, and wonderings about school opening, sports, and other school related activities for next year. As of today, the first day of school is August 27, 2020. If we get different directives from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), we will let you know. At this point, we are planning to return to school ready to teach and support our wonderful Republic Tigers.

Thank you for your continued support of the Republic School District. The staff, students and I thank you. Please contact me if you have questions or need additional information. I look forward to another amazing school year in August.

Ms. G
