Miss Campbell's 1st-grade class had a busy day this week as they participated in a behind-the-scenes adventure with our local public service agencies. They started their day at the United States Postal Service, where Postmaster Artie McRae taught the students how mail is delivered from the post office to their mailboxes. Next, the Republic Volunteer Fire Department explained how to assist firefighters in the event of a house fire. Finally, team members from Ferry County Memorial Hospital shared their medical expertise with the students. The ROAR program would like to thank Artie McRae at the USPS, Billy Burt, Dean & Kelly Bell and all the volunteers at the RVFD, and Colton Meyers at Ferry County Memorial Hospital for all the hard work and dedication to providing a wonderful experience for the students of Republic Elementary.

Miss King's Kindergarten class recently went on an adventure visiting various local businesses. First, the students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Anderson's Grocery. Then, they visited the library, where they participated in a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt. The last stop was 18 North Kitchen, where Lisa Ortiz, the owner, taught the students about restaurant etiquette. She also prepared a special menu, allowing the Kindergarteners to practice communicating their orders to a waitress. The ROAR program would like to thank Anderson's Grocery, the library, and 18 North Kitchen for welcoming the students of Republic Elementary to their businesses.

Students from Republic Elementary and Middle School had a unique opportunity last week to try hok skiing on Boulder Pass. The ROAR program was fortunate to partner with Altai Skis, based in Curlew, for this latest winter adventure. Students received a brief introduction to the history of hok skiing, followed by a short demonstration of its fundamentals. Then, they embarked on a winter adventure that allowed them to explore a new hobby and experience a unique winter activity. The ROAR program would like to thank Landon Swafford and Tom Amend for generously donating their time and Nils Larsen of Altai Skis for providing the Republic students with this experience.
